Menopause is a normal and natural event also known as the 'change of life'. A woman is in menopause when her monthly periods (menstruation) ends permanently. This means that she will not be able to give birth to children.

Menopause is the last stage of a woman's biological cycle. The ovaries that produce and release an egg during each monthly period, also produce female hormone oestrogen. Normally the level of this hormone begins to decrease during the mid- 30s and continue to decrease around the age of 47. This will lead to menopause. Menopause is said to have occurred when a woman has not had her monthly periods for 12 consecutive months.
